Cleveland Clinic opens vaccine site in Fairfax neighborhood

 CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Cleveland Clinic opened a new community-based COVID-19 vaccination site on Monday at their Hughes Health and Education Center.


“You’re ready to get the vaccine here, you’re also ready to ask somebody if you've got concerns about the vaccine,” said Dr. Michelle Medina, associate chief of clinical operations.

The center is found in Cleveland’s predominantly African-American Fairfax neighborhood, a part of Ward 6.

“I know that there have been tons of individuals that we’re hesitant initially, but now that they see their friends, their peers, their neighbors, their leaders, folks are beginning to get the vaccine, I’m beginning to see tons more people willing to urge the vaccine and having access to Langston is critical,” said Ward 6 Councilman Blaine Griffin.

He said there's a longtime connection to the middle.


“The residents of the neighborhood have a familiarity with Cleveland Clinic and Hughes and therefore the staff here so there’s A level of trust there.”


Medina said they believe they're going to be ready to accommodate up to 300 to 400 vaccinations each day at Langston. A spokesperson later told us almost 350 people attended Monday.

This vaccination site is appointment only at this point and future events are going to be announced. The Clinic said it hopes to open additional community vaccination sites as vaccine supply continues to extend.
